We all want healthy and radiant hair, but are you really taking care of your it? Do you protect it from harsh weather conditions and heat styling tools? If your locks appear dull, it may be from heat damage – that’s where heat protectant comes in.

What Heat Protectant Does

The purpose of a heat protectant is to coat your hair and act as a barrier from high temperatures. That means that you need to use heat protectant to have healthy hair. Ideally, you should refrain from using a blow dryer, straightener, or curling iron at all. If that seems impossible for your unruly hair, make sure you’re applying protectant before styling.

How Healthy Hair is Structured

Each strand of hair consists of an inner cortex (water molecules plus protein/keratin) and an outer cuticle appears shiny and soft if it is healthy. However, when applying high temperatures of heat to your hair, the water molecules in the inner cortex evaporate and disappear.

Without that protective layer of water molecules, the keratin and cuticle become bare and vulnerable to damage. Once this happens, your hair will be frizzy, de-hydrated and even more sensitive to heat. Any more damage will leave your hair unsalvageable and the only solution is to book a haircut appointment.

How to Use Heat Protectant

This is where heat protectant comes in for healthy hair. Although it does not fully prevent damage, it acts as a barrier to extreme temperature, like a jacket protecting you from the cold. Heat protectants exist in different forms, such as a spray, an oil, or a cream. Simply apply the product evenly through damp hair before using a hair dryer or heat tool and you’re good to go. Heat protectant can also be used with hydrating products to add extra hydration and shine.

If your hair is already damaged, don’t fret. Book a haircut appointment and discuss with your hairdresser how you want to revive your locks. Once you establish a hair routine with the right products, follow it. Before you know it, your hair will be as healthy as ever.

These five beauty items will make your transition from summer to winter as flawless as possible.

On the eternal quest for dewy skin, we find ourselves at a crossroads when the weather changes. When summer is on the horizon, we adjust our routines to ensure that we don’t somehow turn into a greasy, gooey, oily mess whereas when winter arrives, we adjust to ensure that we’re not a cracking, rough, and a dull desert.

Now, I’m not talking about the obvious ones- body and facial moisturizers and hair oils will not be on this list because you need to have these YEAR-ROUND, people!

Without further adieu, let’s dive into the list:

Tinter moisturizer

Swap out your foundation for a tinter moisturizer. When the degrees in temperature drop, and your skin begins to dry up, you’ll need that added hydration. This is useful not only to appear significantly more radiant, but to also prevent wrinkles and cracks from setting on your face.

Hair mask

The dry air, snow, and rain will wreak absolute havoc on your hair. Before you know it, the shine will be gone and the frizz will be in full force. Invest in a deep-conditioning hair mask and apply it after every hair wash.

An-anti pollution serum

Air pollution sneaks its way into our pores and causes nasty reactions in our face. Develop a gentle, yet cleaning daily face routine and incorporate an anti-pollution serum to protect those pores.

Hydrating lip gloss

Do your research on this one. Find a lip gloss that not only incorporates shine, but deep-conditions your lips to make sure they don’t crust. Look for products that include shea butter, jojoba oil, or hyaluronic acid in their ingredient list.

Gentle body and face wash

No more harsh chemicals and fragrances. You need to be nourishing your skin because the minute you step outside, those harsh seasonal conditions will strip away whatever it can.

With this ultimate list, you can conquer the perils of cold weather and emerge as glowy as humanly possible. The transition from summer to winter is insanely easy with these items.
